Turmeric (haridra in Sanskrit) is described by the Ayurvedic texts to be krimighni (reducing growth of bacteria) and asrapaha (cleaning blood by detoxifying liver).

Turmeric should be cooked with vegetables or lentils, not taken raw.  It should be used in moderation and cut back if you show signs of detox crisis: diarrhea, skin rash, etc.

Add one pinch to lentils, vegetables or milk while cooking.  Use in combination with other spices.  Be careful not to overdose yourself.
