Why is your toothpaste more expensive compared to those that are already available on the market?

Hi, we are always so grateful for this deep true knowledge---BIG THANKS! We enjoy using the High Calcium fennel toothpaste. My husband has a lot of teeth problems. He has many root canals, and has to have calculus professionally cleaned off 2-3 times a year. He has uneven teeth and pain when eating sweet fruit (he doesn't touch sugar). He is very athletic (mainly running and volleyball), but is very thin. His BMI is lower than 18% and they couldn't measure it. When I am not in balance I have pitta-kapha issues. I am not experiencing any problems with my teeth currently. Both of us have been total vegetarians since 2000 eating according to what we learned from Dr. Mishra's columns in Total Health News from when he was with TM. What kind of rinses do you recommend? Does our turmeric consumption stain our teeth? And finally, what is your opinion of electric toothbrushes? Thanks for taking care of the world!

I have been listening to the call. Thank you so much for taking the time to educate us all on such an important subject. For some reason I have not been able to download the pdf notes, but would love suggestions for tooth powder and gargle. My situation is a pitta one with some tendency for inflammation and dry mouth in the morning. I have been having a very difficult time with severe reactions to the materials used for dental work and am trying my hardest to delay work on two small cavities and a possible root canal. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thank you for the wonderful session. I have the following characteristics of mouth: Demineralization of teeth, some staining, and possibly getting a cavity. What would you recommend for this? Really appreciate your response.

Would you please email me the recipes Dr. Mishra mentioned for tooth powder and mouthwash. My constitution is vata-pitta. Thank you! Great call today. Many thanks to Dr. Vaidya Mishra and to you for helping us learn.

Please could you send me recipes for oral care for me? I am pitta vata. I have some deep "pockets" (at gum/teeth joining point) that get bad bacteria in there. Endless thanks to Dr Mishra for all this wonderful knowledge he gives us.

I'm just getting back to you about getting more info about dental powder formula for my situation. Also, any more info on food for firming the teeth? I'm prone to cavities, especially gum line ones. I also have bleeding gums. I'm working on my dental hygiene and really enjoyed your talk about this. Thank you for your offering and insights.

What is SVAdanta Care?

SVA Danta care means:

  • Basic principle of SVA Danta care is from Shaka Vanshiya Ayurveda
  • SVA Danta Care teaches basic dietary guidelines and other regimens so that you can take care of the health of the oral cavity to prevent future problems
  • It helps by enhancing  and maintaining  the intelligence of the oral cavity and gums

What is Shaka Vansya Ayurveda?

Shaka Vansya is the name of my ayurvedic lineage. My Ayurvedic practice is based on the Shaka Vansya tradition. Visit my website www.vaidyamishra.com for more details on my lineage and SVA.

There are already many oral care products from different herbal companies in the market. What is so unique about your oral care product?

European toothpastes are available in the market but lack some of the key herbal oral care ingredients.

Unique features of my Oral care products are:

  • My formulation includes all the vital and best quality of synergy of herbs with proper - samyog and samskar - combination and processing. My oral care products are for enhancing the oral health, as well as the overall health of the physiology.
  • It is edible. In fact some of my clients have testified that ingesting a small quantity of the toothpaste has helped in digestion after a heavy meal. Just swallowing one drop of Fresh Mouth Wash™ helps in protein and carbohydrate metabolism.
  • Paraben and SLS free
  • Free from synthetic ingredients
  • Free from artificial colors and flavors
Why is your herb rich paste so dark green in color? Does that not stain the color of the teeth?

Herb rich toothpaste is dark green due to the high concentration of essential herbs. It will not stain the color of your teeth. In fact, clients have been calling in saying that after using the toothpaste their teeth actually look whiter than before.

Are there any contradictions due to strong aroma and high concentration of herbs?

Yes, there are certain contradictions. It can cause inflammation for those who already have some type of inflammatory condition, and also those who are high pitta predominant constitution. They should not use these products.

What will happen if they use herb rich tooth paste?

They might experience more detox which can lead to a detox crisis. This in turn can result in more inflammation.

Do you have any alternative tooth paste available for those who cannot use herb rich tooth paste?

Yes. I have formulated a high calcium cooling toothpaste with Praval powder, rose and fennel. These ingredients are cooling. Therefore, it can be used by those who are prone to high pitta or inflammation.

Are you saying the High calcium cooling toothpaste is free from lots of herbs that are used in herb rich toothpaste?

High calcium cooling toothpaste also contains all those herbs used in herb rich toothpaste, but in smaller quantity. Fennel and rose act as the cooling agents.

When I am using your herb rich toothpaste to brush my teeth, I experience a gluey and sticky feeling. Can you make it free flowing like other toothpastes that are available on the market?

I purposefully formulated it sticky and gluey because 100% of the water soluble mucilage molecules in my herb rich and high calcium toothpastes help bind the toxins (ama, ama visha, ghara visha) and evacuate them.

Our bodies accumulate ama (semi-digested food), ama visha (acidic toxins) and Gharvisha (chemical toxins) over a period of time. Detox is not something that we just go and do every few months by getting a panchakarma cleanse done. When toxins come out of the body all at once, it can result in a severe detox crisis. To avoid such dangers, the detox has to be slow but steady and mild. It must be incorporated in day-to-day living, starting from brushing the teeth, to the use of non-toxic soaps, shampoos and conditioners in the shower, along with routine food behavior. This way your body eliminates the old toxins slowly but effectively and also can prevent accumulation of new toxins.

Gluey and sticky properties in the toothpaste protect the gums and help prevent detachment of teeth from the gums. You might have heard your dentist warn you “do not brush with hard brushes, otherwise, your teeth can get detached from the gums.”

Plus: After gargling and rinsing the mouth, the gluey feeling goes away.

Are there any contradictions for the High Calcium toothpaste?

Not really but caution is advised for those who are on estrogen inhibitors as they should avoid it due to high fennel content.

Why is it called High Calcium toothpaste?

It is called high calcium toothpaste because it has “Praval Pisti," powder from white coral which is very rich in calcium and helps to remineralize.

Why do you say your toothpastes are edible?

There is an alternative delivery system called transmucosal absorption. When you are using any oral care products, transmucosal absorption starts to happen as soon as the product comes in contact (touch) with your skin or oral mucosa. Most of the oral care products have a caution on their product label saying “do not swallow; if ingested, call poison control immediately,” but it's too late. These harsh poisonous chemicals start to circulate in your body as soon as they touch creating toxins. This makes it clear that only things that are edible should be put in the mouth.

In Ayurveda we use all possible delivery systems. That is why I use this power of transmucosal absorption to deliver calcium to the whole body and not just the teeth. It also balances the pH of the mouth and protects the friendly bacteria of the oral cavity.

Are you saying that the herb rich toothpaste also has similar effects – transmucosal absorption?

Yes. That is why I chose all those herbs which are essential not just for the teeth, but healthy for the whole body overall.

What is Karanja?

Karanja, also called Pongamia Pinnata, is a very popular tree in India. In Jharkhand India, we use the “datoon” which means the tender sticks of Karanja to brush our teeth. It has the same effect as Neem, and it is also bitter. For oral care, it is a more powerful herb than Neem.

Can you tell me about Babool? Some of the toothpastes in the market have Babool as one of their ingredients.

Babool (Acacia nilotica) is very famous for nourishing the oral mucosa and strengthening the contact between the gum and teeth. There are toothpastes named after Babool, but one must be be very careful as lots of toothpastes named after these divine oral care herbs have paraben and SLS which are chemical ingredients.

Why is your toothpaste more expensive compared to those that are already available on the market?

Most companies do a detailed market research when they are developing a product. In order to increase the sales of their products and to survive the competition, the researchers fix the price tag based on the competitive rate. I am very lucky that my investors do not succumb to competitors. They want the best quality since they use my products. For the best quality product you need the finest herbs and raw materials, which come with a high price tag. I take more caution in preserving the “Prana” in my formulations, so I use slow and safe methods of extraction from the herbs in order to preserve the “Prana” while making it pranically safe. This is a time consuming process which leads to high labor and overhead costs.

Recommendation for your husband:

Mouth Rinse: 1 Rose bud, 2 pinches DGL, 1 Clove bud, and 1 pinch of babul. Boil everything in 8 oz water, strain and add 1/2 tsp melted coconut oil while still warm. Gargle and hold in mouth for a few seconds and rinse out before bed time.

Mouth Rinse: 1 Rose bud, 2 pinches of Gymnema, 1 clove, 1/4 tsp holy basil, 1/4 tsp fennel seeds, and 1 pinch nutmeg powder, boil all this in 8 oz water, strain and add 1/2 tsp almond oil while still warm. Gargle and rinse out before bed time.

If you cook turmeric with your meals it shouldn't stain the teeth. Also, you can try Vaidya Mishra's Herb rich toothpaste to whiten teeth.

Vaidya doesn't recommend electric toothbrushes because of the EMF effect. Water picks are ok.

Thank you for the wonderful session. I have the following characteristics of mouth: Demineralization of teeth, some staining, and possibly getting a cavity. What would you recommend for this? Really appreciate your response.

Recommendation for your oral care:

Your question on demineralization of teeth is a very big issue particularly in pitta vata people. Due to oral cavity we have possible accumulation of the following kind of material:

Malas are naturally produced by the body during transformation of fat (meda) to bone (asthi). Also some shastras (ayurvedic texts) say that oral malas are produced during transformation of bone to bone marrow. According to Ayurveda these malas get deposited in the teeth, gum and tongue, so any amount of flossing and cleaning doesn't get rid of the residue of food in the teeth. When we don't do anything to get rid of these malas they sit there and create ama visha (reactive biological toxins), thus impact the mineralization process because these toxins are very acidic and acid starts to leach out the calcium from the teeth. No matter how much mineral we eat or put in our mouth it doesn't help. If the body is also acidic then there's a problem in the metabolic process of transformation of fat to bone or bone to bone marrow. Both produce more malas in quantity and it can make ama visha of these malas. All this can take away the alkalinity of the oral cavity and de-mineralize teeth. The residue of food and toxic feelings also adds up to this crisis. So now you can see how Ayurveda helps with this.

Ayurveda recommends the care of the colon to start with, where the first raw material rasa dhatu (clear part of the plasma) is produced.

We have to do something to target the support transformation of fat to bone and bone to bone marrow, then local oral care can help. Vaidya Mishra's high calcium toothpaste is designed for this crisis.

High ratio of Praval (oral calcium) helps to alkalize the oral cavity and gum. The micro molecules of praval help re-mineralize the calcium in the teeth and whole oral mucosa.

Fennel & Rose pacify the reactivity of amavisha.

Bentonite clay, babool and gum acacia bind the toxins and take them out when you rinse after brushing.

Gymnema neutralizes any residue of glucose and sugar so that it does not create extra acidity overnight in the oral cavity.

Regarding your bowel movement, if you have less or no problem with constipation you can have 1 or 2 tablets of High Pitta Triphala™ before bedtime or 1 -2 tablets of Triphala. Depending on your bowel movement you can also try our new mild SVA Lax.

And if any of these don't help please consult with your SVA Ayurvedic Practitioner (refer to the list of practitioners on Vaidya Mishra's website at www.vaidyamishra.com under the tab practitioners).

To rid the teeth stains for whiter teeth please try Vaidya Mishra's Herb Rich Toothpaste. For maintaining good health follow the SVA diet. With a good diet you can prevent cavities, but if you already have cavities please see your dentist.
