Katuka is the Sanskrit name of this herb, kutaki is the Hindi name, usually pronounced kutki.  The Latin name is picrorhiza kurroa. Katuka activates the liver to lose its pitta mala (the liver's toxic waste product) that builds up in the liver and gall bladder. 

The liver plays a very important role in the body to transform the physical and vibrational energy of everything that we eat, see, hear, etc. into our own specific vibration that makes us unique. The natural result of so much transformation is a fairly large production of waste inside the liver.

If the liver is weak, transformations are only partially completed, giving rise to an overwhelming build-up of extra toxins. This is especially true in modern life when the liver has to process indigestible food, pranically dead food, harsh chemicals, alcohol, toxic emotions, and electromagnetic radiation on a regular basis. Toxic waste can build up in the liver faster than it is eliminated, and this build-up weakens the five agnis (burners) in the liver.

As the agnis become weak, they are unable to transform food materials into nutrient-rich, and vibrationally-rich blood every day. This sluggishness of metabolism gives rise to a build up of even more waste material in the liver, which further weakens the agnis (burners). When the agnis become very weak, the waste material becomes thick and difficult to remove from the liver and gall bladder. It is important to understand the state of the liver before using a powerful herb like katuka to remove toxins. Katuka is a very strong herb which can effectively squeeze the liver and scrape it to release the old toxins sitting inside.  This can be quite dangerous if there are a lot of toxins backed up there.  If a large amount of toxins are released from the liver at once, they can cause irritable bowl syndrome or may get reabsorbed into the bloodstream and travel to the brain, heart, or other organs and cause serious damage.

Before attempting any kind of liver detox, the channels of elimination must first be unblocked, and become more alkaline so they can handle the extremely acidic toxins when they come through on the way out of the body. Finally, binders such as tapioca, okra, or barley should be used to help bind the liver toxins when they reach the colon and help get them out of the body without being reabsorbed into the blood.

Directions
