Product Description

One of the 3 main Medhya herbs, Jyotishmati (Celastrus Paniculatus) enhances the fire of the intellect (Medhya Agni), increases Smriti (recall abilities) and increases overall light to the mind. This powerful herb helps to awaken the brain and can be used to treat Autism and Alzheimers. Because it is a lipid-soluble herb and the brain is made mostly of lipids, it has a unique capability to strongly impact the brain, bypassing the blood-brain barrier easily.

  • Read (below) the Sanskrit verse where describing the raw herb as very sharp, hot and pungent, kapha-pacifying with some purgative qualities. Enhancing complexion, healing the stomach, healing ulcers.
  • Listen to Vaidya discuss this herb in context of the keeping a Calm Mind in his Cafe Series #13, available for download on iTunes, Google Play and Amazon Digital Music.

This is what Dr Marianne Teitelbaum has to say about this herb and formulation:

Jyotishmati: an ayurvedic herb to wake up the brain.

"Vaidya Mishra sat with me for 20 years treating babies and children who we vaccine injured and were now brain damaged.

He was very depressed after feeling their pulses, seeing how many heavy metals and toxins they had accumulated from their over-zealous vaccine schedule.

However, once he overcame this initial shock he went to work preparing formulas to try to chelate out the aluminum, fix their gut and wake up their brain again.

This was the last herb he got for our protocols. I remember how excited he was when it finally arrived from India.

The word jyotish means light, and mati denotes intelligence. Thus, this herb brightens up the brain. It not only helps the brain damage children but is useful on preventing dementia in adults. It gives clarity of thought, and helps memory through its effects on the neurotransmitters, especially serotonin, epinephrine and dopamine.

Do a google scholar search and read some of the research on its antioxidant effects on neurons in the brain.

The wonderful thing about ayurveda is even though it is an ancient science, much research has been done on all the herbs we use so that we can see why they are so beneficial, just as the ancient doctors predicted."

  • Contraindications:  Jyotishmati plant may aggravate pitta. To balance its properties and/or if you are a high pitta type, we suggest you apply DGL Transdermal cream or Roll-On first and then the cream. Jyotishmati cream is great for addressing high Tarpak and/or Kledaka Kapha conditions; also ideal to use during Kapha season/climate and during Kapha time in the morning (6-10am).
