Good for high pitta individuals. Good for use at night - the organic fennel flavor molecules will help with digestion, cooling the digestive tract from the mouth onwards. The fennel flavor and the high calcium content are further pitta pacifying overall to ease into a good night's sleep.

The story behind the product:

The great seers of Ayurveda knew that the oral mucosa could absorb the medicinal value of herbs and deliver them to other organs and systems in a very efficient and powerful way. In effect dental care can be designed to also help other physical ailments. Vaidya Mishra's father, Vaidya Kameshwar Mishra, used that approach when he recomended that a student with a bad liver problem brush his teeth with a fresh stick of Guduchi stem every morning. After he moved to the West in 1994, Vaidya Mishra noticed far more dental health problems than in his village. Unfortunately, not only does modern life in the West lack the herbs of ayurvedic oral care, but it also lacks clean air and water and freshly prepared intelligent food - all important factors that play a major role in supporting good dental health. To compound the problem, non-herbal toothpastes are full of chemicals and artifical ingredients like SLS and Parabens. Not to mention synthetic preservatives and colors.

This inspired Vaidya Mishra to formulate authentic Ayurvedic oral hygiene products by using only organic and/or wild-crafted herbs and 100% natural preservatives.

    I used to use a popular brand of "natural" toothpaste, but after I developed a minor toothache I decided to switch to Vaidya Mishra's toothpastes. It was amazing - my toothache went away a few days after I started using them!

    However, at my next dental cleaning four months later, my hygienist and dentist noticed that I had some decalcification (precursor to cavities) on a few teeth and needed to adjust my diet and oral care routine to combat what was happening (I was consuming a lot of sugar via organic ice cream and soda at the time, and my dentist prescribed me some fluoride-free MI Paste to re-calcify my teeth).

    I love to use this toothpaste to this day, but just a gentle warning to others - remember to consult your hygienist and/or dentist every three to six months as you switch to a natural toothpaste, and follow the trusty low-sugar SVA diet while you're at it to ensure best results! :)

    I have tried all of Chandi's toothpastes, and this is by far my favorite because of its gentle, cooling effects & great taste. I think it's optimal to brush with this before bed as this is the time our bodies regenerate the most, plus it's during a time of fasting. I like the use of bentonite clay instead of activated charcoal because betonite clay is a bit easier on the teeth as it doesn't seem as abrasive. I still think activated charcoal is great once in awhile for serious teeth whitening but it's not something I want to brush with every day.

    Would have given it 5 stars, but the last tube still eventually got very hard and difficult to squeeze out. If this happens to you, cut the tube open along the end and squeeze paste out more easily. Then store it in a small baggie to keep it from drying out even more.
